Founded in 2024, Mourne Flight Training has been a long-time dream for the team. The plan for a grass-roots, cost effective and professional environment to help all pilots and hope-to-be pilots was born. Bringing a fresh attitude to Flight Training, where pilots can feel comfortable to widen their envelope of knowledge and skills, as well as introduce new pilots to the community of Mourne. Our small, but experienced team has expertise in a large variety of light aircraft, theoretical knowledge and in-house examiners. After careful consideration we attained DTO Status in March 2024 to be able to conduct flight training from Kilkeel Airfield.
Based at Kilkeel Airfield beside the Heart of the Mourne Mountains, where they sweep down to the Sea you will find a small but vibrant community of Aviators. What started as a small field, has sprung into a hotspot of Northern Irish aviation. We take a serious look at Flight Training, but strive to be an approachable school which can help with your training needs; even if it is as simple as offering an instructor to spend an hour of radio-work with you. Or if you would like some extra coaching to help build confidence, that’s why we are here. We can fill the gap where busy schools can’t by offering a personal touch to any of your training needs.
Our Commitment
Mourne Flight Training is committed to achieving the highest possible standard of safety and training quality. Our Staff will champion this course and recognise the importance of proactively involving Students, Customers, Visitors and Training Partners in the process. We are:
- welcoming,
- approachable,
- supportive,
- proactive,
- professional.
We nurture a just culture approach and always keep the door open for a chat, suggestions, worries and questions.
Our Mission
We believe that most pilots choose aviation out of passion. We want to help keep that passion alive, make it accessible to everyone and foster an environment which allows everybody to learn something new every day.
Knowledge, skill and continued development are key to piloting and a sense of personal responsibility is particularly important in the general aviation environment in single-pilot operations. Whilst formalised training and upskilling is important, we recognise the informal learning opportunities arising from a positive flying environment and supportive communication culture.
Our guiding principles are:
- accountability,
- integrity,
- customer focus,
- empowerment,
- solution focus.
